After suffering a setback in his recovery from an upper-body injury, the Rangers decided to shut down Filip Chytil for the remainder of the season.
“Following a thorough evaluation of Filip Chytil after his recent setback from an upper-body injury, it has been confirmed he will be out for the remainder of this season," the team wrote on its social media accounts. "The organization’s top priority throughout this process has been Filip’s health and we will continue to fully support him in his recovery with an aim to return for the 2024-25 season.”
Chytil suffered the upper-body injury, which the Rangers classified it as but it was suspected to be a concussion, back in early November and had a hard time getting back on the ice. He returned to his home country of Czechia for three weeks in what the team called a reset.
The 24-year-old returned to New York on Monday where he participated in practice wearing a non-contact red jersey. However, Chytil suffered a setback on Friday, his second practice since returning to the team, when he needed help off the ice after being down for several minutes.
It's still unclear what caused the incident.
Chytil had six assists in just 10 games this season.
