The Rangers have acquired Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid in exchange for Steven Kampfer, a 4th round pick in 2019 and a conditional seventh round pick.

  • The Rangers will send a conditional 7th round pick to Boston for Adam McQuaid if McQuaid plays in 25 games for the Rangers or is traded during the season. (NY Post)

McQuaid, 31, is a right shot defenseman and a UFA following this season.

He has a cap hit of $2.75 million this season but an actual salary of $2 million.

From the Rangers release on McQuaid:

  • McQuaid has registered at least 100 hits in five of his nine NHL seasons, and he has also recorded at least 100 blocked shots in four of his nine seasons in the league.
  • In 2016-17, he led the Bruins in blocked shots (144) and ranked second on the team in hits (157), establishing career-highs in both categories, and he was one of only eight NHL players who recorded at least 140 hits and 140 blocked shots during the season.
  • McQuaid has skated in 68 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, and he helped the Bruins advance to the Stanley Cup Final twice (2010-11 and 2012-13).
  • The 6-4, 212-pounder was credited with 80 hits and 56 blocked shots last season, and he was tied for second among Bruins defensemen in hits per game (2.1).

Last season he played 38 games for Boston with 1 goal, 3 assists and an average of 15:42.

In his 462 game career, McQuaid has 13 goals, 53 assists, a plus 60 rating, and an average of 16:18 per game.

He has had 16 fights over the past three seasons. (HockeyFights)

Adam Rotter: McQuaid is the perfect kind of player for this Rangers team. He's a veteran, tough and said to be a great leader. The Rangers were only interested in adding a certain kind of player and McQuaid fits that bill. He is the kind of veteran/bridge the gap kind of player that all rebuilding teams need and he is also someone that the Rangers could flip at the deadline to recoup, at least, the fourth round pick that they traded.
