The Raiders roll into MetLife Stadium on Sunday with a 6-4 record, including a current three-game win streak.

In many ways, the Raiders have been a surprise in head coach Jon Gruden's second year with the team, and one of the biggest reasons for their success has been the play of rookie running back Josh Jacobs.

A first round pick out of Alabama, Jacobs has been tremendous out of the Raiders backfield, as his 923 rushing yards ranks him fourth among all NFL rushers, while his seven touchdowns rank seventh in the league.

On Sunday, Jacobs will face the best run defense in the NFL, with Gang Green allowing just 79.1 rushing yards per game to their opponents.

Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams will look to keep Jacobs in check, which he knows won't be a simple task.

"He is very solid. He is very well-coached, and I knew a lot about him when he was at Alabama," Williams said on Friday. "I love that story, the background story on him on the thing he's overcome in his life is a great story about the young man. But he's doing things exactly the way Jon (Gruden) likes. He's a very sudden, powerful, one-cut kind of a runner.

"He's not a delayed type of guy at all behind the line of scrimmage, he attacks the line of scrimmage and he's protected the ball well for them too, done very well. We need to make sure we understand that you don't want to be in space by yourself with him because he can make you miss."

According to Williams, it will take a total team effort to keep Jacobs at bay.

"Well, in order to play very strong run defense, you've got to play 11 guys together," said Williams. "The hardest thing for me to do anymore is to watch high school and college football with people not understanding how to play run defense and how you have to go about restricting the field and playing knock back. We don't catch and react. We're an attacking defense and you've got to do a really, really, really good job on not letting them get outside and when you let them get outside, now it's a tough game to play because now you've got to match up with them in space."

And while it's true that all 11 players will have to be in sync for the Jets' defense to be at the top of their game, Gruden has his eyes on rookie Quinnen Williams specifically.

"They're the No. 1 rushing defense in football and he's the reason why," Gruden said on a conference call with Jets reporters. "He's healthy and moving around much better than he did earlier in the season.

"There's a lot of stuff you got to learn in your first year in the NFL, especially when you play for Gregg Williams. It looks like he's playing with a lot more confidence, energy. He's a force in there. It'll be a challenge for us."
