One unnamed coach would "love" the Jets' head coaching job that's expected to open in a few days. And he is extremely high on their future.

"The Jets are poised to take over that division," the coach told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. "Brady's time is short."

Brady is of course 41-year-old Tom Brady, whose Patriots are 10-5, have clinched the AFC East, and are a Week 17 win over the Jets away from a first round bye in the playoffs.

While Brady hasn't been as incredible he was during the 2017 season, his completion percentage (65.4 percent) and yards gained per pass attempt (7.6) have only dipped slightly from 2017 to 2018.

But Brady has slipped as the season has wound down. He had an absolutely brutal game against the Bills last Sunday, and there is speculation that he is playing through a partially torn MCL in his knee.

As Brady has slipped, Jets QB Sam Darnold has been at his best over the last three weeks, with his completion percentage above 63.2 percent each week, including 68.6 percent during Week 16's loss to the Packers. Over his last three games (coinciding with his return from a foot injury), Darnold has tossed six touchdowns and just one interception.

Beyond the Pats and still between them and the Jets are the 7-8 Dolphins and 5-10 Bills. But this was always viewed as an adjustment year for Darnold, and the Jets are expected to add impact pieces around him this offseason.

The Jets have an obscene amount of salary cap space (players such as Le'Veon Bell will be available), and are poised to wind up with a Top 4 pick in the NFL Draft.
