The Jets may have played it safe with their first-round pick Quinnen Williams, but not so much with some of their other selections at the NFL Draft.

Per Mike Sando of ESPN, talent evaluators around the league raised concerns about the character issues surrounding third-round picks Jachai Polite and Chuma Edoga.

"If you had question marks, you fell in this draft, unless the Jets took you," one evaluator said. "The Raiders took those guys last year. This year, the Raiders take a bunch of high-football-character guys and the Jets were the ones rolling the dice."

Polite, an edge rusher out of Florida, was at one point considered a first-round talent but dropped significantly after a poor performance at the NFL Combine -- on the field and in the interview process. He dropped out of the combine after a slow 40-yard dash and cited a hamstring injury then publicly complained to the media that some teams were "bashing" him for negative plays they found on film.

Polite has since apologized and taken accountability for what happened at the combine.

Edoga, an offensive tackle, also has some maturity issues. He was ejected from a game in 2016 for pushing an official.

Another evaluator was also asked if the Jets made a mistake passing on Kentucky edge rusher Josh Allen -- who would have filled an immediate need -- instead of taking Williams.

"You take the best player on the board in the draft because 'blue' players are so hard to find," an evaluator said, "but if you take the Jets' defense and take their four best players, three of them play the position that just got drafted with the third pick. You've got Leonard Williams, you just paid Henry Anderson and then last year you used a third-round pick on Nathan Shepherd, who is pretty good. What is going on here?"
