The Mets won a wild one against the Nationals on Wednesday night, as Juan Lagares and Rajai Davis notched eighth-inning clutch hits to secure a 6-1 victory.

After the game, Mickey Callaway praised the Mets' depth for their ability to help the team score runs in these late situations.

"If you look at the amount of runs we score late, from the seventh inning on, it's because of our depth," Callaway said. "It's because we're able to put good pinch hitters out there, we're able to double switch the way we want, and it definitely helps us score runs late. And then you have guys that get to step in and win some games and do really good jobs when guys get hurt. So, great job building depth this winter and it's helping us win some games."

Lagares delivered the first big blow for the Mets. With the bases load and two away, Lagares drove a Sean Doolittle pitch into the left-center gap to give the Mets a 3-1 lead.

"I just want to try to do my job every time I get the opportunity," Lagares said. "It doesn't matter who [we're missing], but every time I'm out there, I just want to give my hundred percent and stay ready because you never know."

Meanwhile, Jacob deGrom rebounded from a poor start against Miami to hold the Nats to just one run over six innings of work, keeping the Mets in the game until their eighth-inning rally.

"Nobody wants to have a road trip like we had," deGrom said. "But to come here and win the first three is big."
