In a game full of incredible pitching, huge homers and clutch hits, it was a play by outfielder Tyrone Taylor that really helped the Mets keep the momentum en route to a 7-2 win in Game 3 of the National League Division Series.

With one out in the fourth inning and the Mets only up 1-0, Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm launched a booming line into right-center field that split Taylor and Starling Marte. Taylor bare-handed the one-hopper off the wall and threw a strike to Francisco Lindor at second base.

The Mets shortstop grabbed the throw and put down a tag that erased Bohm and erased the possible tying run.

"Huge. Winning plays, winning at-bats. Not giving them extra 90 feet, extra outs," manager Carlos Mendoza said of the Taylor play after the game. "Today, Taylor executed a ball that hits the wall, bare-handed and throws a perfect one-hop to second base. And then Lindor, don’t forget, not an easy play with the runner coming in. Not only is he catching it, he’s putting a good tag.

"It’s a leadoff double and who knows what happens in that inning. We get him at second base and we get the momentum back. We need to continue to make those plays, have that type of mentality and continue to execute."

If Bohm reaches second, starter Sean Manaea would have to gut out the fourth inning and as Mendoza said, the game could have turned out very differently.

Instead, Manaea would get through the fourth and pitch all the way into the eighth inning.

“That’s unbelievable play," Manaea told SNY's Steve Gelbs. "I know they work on this stuff all the time, Antoan [Richardson] does an unbelievable job with the outfielders, having the confidence to go out there to just bare-hand a ball and just fire an absolute strike to second base is an unbelievable moment in this atmosphere and this game, it was just perfect from all ends.”

Taylor said the key to the play was just "being free in mind and reacting." He credited Marte for communicating to him that he had a shot at second base so he turned and threw, which Taylor said was the most difficult part of the play.

"I felt he was going to have a really good chance," Lindor said of the play. "I respect what Bohm did, you have to be aggressive in that situation. Hats off to Tyrone for making a great play. He’s an amazing outfielder for sure."

"I definitely know how much it meant to Sean at the time. I felt like I could have ran through the wall with how exciting it was with the crowd and momentum. It’s a game of momentum, I knew it was big for us and I’m just happy to contribute."

The Mets hope to carry that momentum in Wednesday's Game 4 back in Citi Field. With a 2-1 series lead, one more win will send the Mets to the NLCS for the first time since 2015.
