Six Takeaways from Wednesday's game...
1) Steven Matz was tremendous for the Mets on Wednesday night. He got into some trouble in the second inning, allowing an RBI double to Ender Inciarte, but outside of that inning, he made easy work of the Braves' lineup. The lefty allowed just two hits, striking out five. His night came to a close after six innings and 79 pitches, a questionable decision by Mickey Callaway to turn things over to the pen. Matz also helped himself with two hits of his own.
2) Dallas Keuchel kept the Mets hitters off balance for six innings. He didn't feature overpowering stuff, but mixed speeds well enough to hold the Mets to just five hits over his six innings of work. He struck out seven and walked just two.
3) In the sixth inning, the Mets got their first two runners on, as JD Davis singled and Pete Alonso was hit by a pitch. But Wilson Ramos grounded into a 1-6-3 double play, and Todd Frazier popped out to first on a great play by Freddie Freeman to end the threat.
4) In the seventh, the Mets finally cracked the scoreboard. Matz singled with two outs to start the rally, followed by an Amed Rosario hard-hit ball to shortstop that ended up give the Mets second and third with two outs. In a huge spot, Davis delivered with a bloop single to center, scoring two and giving the Mets the lead.
5) With the lead in the seventh, Callaway pulled Matz in favor of Seth Lugo. The right-hander got into a jam right away, loading the bases with no outs. Inciarte singled in a run to tie the game. Tyler Flowers added another run on a ground ball to the right side that pulled Alonso way off the bag, leaving Ruben Tejada with no play. The Braves went on to score five runs that inning, all charged to Lugo in just a third of an inning.
6) The Mets added two runs in the ninth, and then loaded the bases for Ramos, who went down swinging. With two away, Michael Conforto went down swinging to end the game.

The Mets and Braves finish off their three-game set on Thursday night in Atlanta. Marcus Stroman (6-11, 3.20 ERA) will make his third start for the Mets, facing Julio Teheran (7-7, 3.35 ERA). First pitch at 7:20 p.m.
