The Mets snapped their four-game losing streak on Tuesday with dramatic, 7-6 come-from-behind victory over the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. > Box score
Six things to know about Monday's game
1) Pete Alonso said Tuesday was a "must-win" game and, boy, he certainly played like it. The rookie slugger delivered in a big way, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, including a go-ahead two-run home run in the ninth inning that featured an emphatic bat flip.
2) It seems like last week's performance from Noah Syndergaard may have been just a mirage. The Mets right-hander, who entered Tuesday with a career ERA of 8.10 at Petco Park struggled in San Diego again, allowing five runs -- four earned -- on nine hits over six innings while striking out five. He has now allowed at least four earned runs in six of his eight starts this season.
3) Brandon Nimmo picked the right moment to break out of his 0-for-28 slump with two outs in the seventh inning when he drove a first-pitch sinker into left-center field for an RBI double which tied the game at 5.
4) Things got a little dicey with Edwin Diaz in the ninth. After striking out the leadoff batter, Diaz allowed a walk, a bloop that barely made it out of the infield and a single to make it a one-run game. He intentionally walked Manny Machado after a wild pitch made it second and third and then struck out Eric Hosmer looking and getting Hunter Renfroe to ground out the short to end the game.
5) Seth Lugo did a solid job out of the Mets' bullpen, picking up the win by tossing scoreless seventh and eighth innings and allowed just two baserunners.
6) Amed Rosario's fielding continues to be a concern. The shortstop made a throwing error trying to turn a double play in the first inning, which allowed a run to score. He now has 10 errors on the season. He did, however, field the final out smoothly to get a force out at second base to seal the win.
