Six things to know about Tuesday's game
1) Steven Matz continued his string of strong performances again, holding the Dodgers to two runs on four hits over six innings while striking out six. His only mistake was hanging an 0-2 curveball over the middle of the plate to Cody Bellinger, who hit his MLB-leading 20th home run. Since Matz' disaster in Philadelphia, when he allowed six earned runs without recording an out, he has allowed more than two runs just once in his last six starts and has lowered his ERA from 4.96 to 3.55 in that span.
2) Michael Conforto seems to be feeling just fine. The Mets' left-handed slugger, who returned from the 7-day concussion IL on Sunday, had a five-RBI day and blasted a go-ahead, opposite field grand slam in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie and give the Mets a 6-2 lead. It was just Conforto's second hit since returning from the IL and his first career grand slam. It could not have come at a better time for the Mets as they win for the seventh time in their last nine games.
3) Todd Frazier continued his hot hitting by crushing a solo home run in the fourth inning - his third of the season - and has now gotten a hit in eight of his last nine games. The Mets' third baseman is hitting .366 with three multi-hit games over that span.
4) Robert Gsellman allowed a run in the seventh inning but prevented further damage when he had two on and two out with the dangerous Bellinger at the plate. Gsellman managed to get the MLB home run leader to swing at a changeup off the plate and pop up to left field to end the threat.
5) Jeurys Familia put two batters on base in the bottom of the eighth but escaped further trouble by getting rookie Will Smith to ground into a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning. Familia has now gone four consecutive appearances without allowing a run, which he has not done since his first four appearances of the season. Edwin Diaz also
6) Amed Rosario added some insurance in the eighth inning with a two-out triple to score Carlos Gomez and put the Mets up 7-3. Rosario also became one of just four players to record multi-hit games in each of his first five games at Dodger Stadium according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
