Five things to know about Saturday's game...

1) Noah Syndergaard's start to the season has been less than ideal and those struggles continued on Saturday. The right-hander allowed five runs on 10 hits and three walks over five innings. He has now allowed at least four earned runs in five of his six starts this season and has not made it past the fifth inning in his last three.

2) Alonso broke out of an 0-for-12 slump with three hits, including a big one in the seventh inning with a towering three-run home run to pull the Mets to within a run. Of his nine home runs this season, seven of them have come in the seventh inning or later and five have come with men on base.

3) Amed Rosario had a productive day at the plate, leading off the seventh inning with a home run and lining an RBI single in the eighth inning to set up two on and nobody out. The Brewers squashed the rally by bringing in Josh Hader, who struck out the next three batters and five of the last six to close the game.

4) Travis d'Arnaud had a game to forget. He struggled behind the plate, allowing multiple balls to get by him but only charged with one passed ball. At the plate, he managed to get a hit but was thrown out oversliding at second base trying to leg out a double in the seventh inning. The Mets scored four runs in that inning to narrow the deficit to one, making his baserunning blunder that much more costly. D'Arnaud is now batting .087 on the year.

5) Just when the Mets got themselves back into the game, Jeurys Familia was unable to keep things a one-run game, allowing the Brewers to score two insurance runs in the top of the eighth. Familia has allowed at least one run in four of his last five appearances, although one of those was unearned.

What's next

The Mets close their series with the Brewers on Sunday when they send LHP Steven Matz (2-1, 4.03 ERA) to the mound while LHP Gio Gonzalez makes his 2019 debut for Milwaukee.
