The Mets couldn't get things going at the plate in St. Louis on Saturday, as the Cardinals handed them a 10-2 loss. >> Box score
Five things to know about Saturday's game...
1) Chris Flexen got the spot start for the Mets in place of Jacob degrom, who was placed on the IL with a sore elbow. He didn't fare well against the Cards, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits over 4.1 innings. While he didn't record a strikeout, he allowed four walks in his outing as well.
2) The Mets offense woke up later in this game, with Amed Rosario smashing a triple to center field to score Jeff McNeil in the seventh inning. J.D Davis would get Rosario in on a ground out. Rosario continues to showcase some more pop early on this season in his 1-for-3 day at the plate.
3) Jeff McNeil made Mets history at the plate, becoming the fastest player to reach 100 hits in franchise history. The record was broken on his seventh inning single.
4) Miles Mikolas stymied the Mets bats for most of his eight-inning start. The Mets finally got to him in that seventh, but he allowed just four hits and two earned while striking out four and walking two.
5) The Mets' bullpen didn't necessarily help much after Flexen came out. Lus Avilan let up two runs over 1.1 innings, and Jacob Rhame and Paul Sewald each allowed a run as well.
