Five Takeaways from Friday's game

1) In the bottom of the first inning with an 0-1 count, Pete Alonso hit his 52nd home run of the season. With that homer, he ties Yankees' star Aaron Judge for the MLB record for home runs by a rookie. Alonso ended the game going 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout. He now has 119 RBI on the season, good for third in the National League behind the Braves' Freddie Freeman (121) and the Nationals' Anthony Rendon (124).

2) In his last start of the season, Marcus Stroman allowed just two earned runs on six hits over 6.0 innings of work. He struck out eight and walked just one batter while tossing a season-high 112 pitches. It's the most strikeouts in a game that Stroman has had since he struck out nine against the Washington Nationals on Aug. 9 -- his second game with the Mets. With the win, Stroman reached 10 wins in a single season for the third time in his career... he had 11 wins in 2014 and 13 wins in 2017.

3) J.D. Davis gave the Mets a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run home run. It's his 21st home run of the season, and gives him 55 RBI this year. Davis added in a double to finish the game 2-for-4 from the plate with two RBI.

4) The Mets had nine hits on the night, as Brandon Nimmo went 2-for-4 with his 11th double of the season and Todd Frazier went 2-for-2 with his 18th double and a walk.

5) Relief pitcher Jeurys Familia successfully got the hold, as he threw just 12 pitches in the seventh inning after allowing one hit and striking out one batter. Seth Lugo came in for the six-out save, getting Freddie Freeman to ground out to first to end the game.

The Mets continue their three-game series with the Braves on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. at Citi Field. LHP Steven Matz (10-10, 4.37 ERA) starts for the Mets, and will go up against RHP Mike Foltynewicz (8-5, 4.46 ERA) for the Braves.
