That's a pretty hard thing to do, go through the minor league season together, win that championship. So I have great memories with him, that was a really fun season. I learned a lot that year, it was a big step to my career as well."

As a member of the Savannah Sand Gnats, Matz went 5-6 in 2013 with a 2.62 ERA and had 121 strikeouts. While Rojas managed the Sand Gnats from 2012 to 2014.

With pitchers and catchers reporting to Spring Training on Feb. 10, Matz has is focus on the upcoming season.

"Offseason was good, got a lot of downtime, took a few trips." Matz said. "Once it's time to go, it's time to go. So I got a lot of good work in too, I'm excited about this year."
