Mets reliever Sean Reid-Foley underwent Tommy John surgery Wednesday morning and his season is over.

The team announced that the surgery was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Texas and that he'll return to Florida in the coming days to continue his rehab.

General manager Billy Eppler told reporters prior to Tuesday’s series opener against the Washington Nationals that the right-hander would have surgery after being diagnosed with a partially torn UCL following his appearance April 30 against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Reid-Foley had been weighing whether to have surgery or try to rehab the injury, but the 26-year-old ended up going under the knife. The surgery normally comes with a nine-month timetable to return.

In seven appearances this season, Reid-Foley gave up six runs over 10 innings (5.40 ERA) and stuck out eight batters. However, in his last four appearances, he gave up just two runs.
