Mets shortstop prospect Ronny Mauricio turned heads during his time in big league camp at spring training, showing off his bulked up physique and going 5-for-11 at the plate.

Mauricio and 18 other players were reassigned from big league camp on Tuesday night, and Mauricio talked on Wednesday about his time in camp and what the future might hold.

"I think my maturity as a player has really been showing at the plate," Mauricio told reporters via Zoom. "For me, I have more control over the strike zone, I have more trust in my hands. And I think it's really just my thought process when I'm in there to be able to be successful at the plate."

Speaking about the presence of Francisco Lindor and the possibility that the Mets signing Lindor long-term could block Mauricio at shortstop, the 19-year-old said he thinks about it, but isn't focusing on it.

And if it comes down to it, Mauricio -- who hasn't yet played other positions professionally -- would be open to moving to third base or second base.

"Yeah for sure, I think about it," Mauricio said. "But at the same time, it's not gonna take away from my goals of reaching the major leagues. I have to just focus on myself, focus on my game by succeeding every single season. If I'm not playing here in the major leagues, maybe I'll be playing somewhere else. But also if I'm playing here, I could switch positions and I'll feel comfortable there as well."

Mauricio, who could be ticketed for High-A Brooklyn to start the minor league season, also talked about learning from Lindor.

"I've learned a whole bunch from him, just being able to watch him play, being able to train with him there at short," Mauricio said. "I've just been able to take little things away from him so I can implement it in my game."
