Mets' Pete Alonso ties NL rookie record with 39th home run of the season

Rookie is now just two homers away from franchise record

Another night, another milestone for Pete Alonso.

In the top of the first inning, Amed Rosario and Joe Panik both recorded hits to get things started, setting the stage for Alonso, who slammed a three-run home run to dead center, splashing down well beyond the fence to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.

The blast was Alonso's 39th home run of the season, tying Cody Bellinger's 2017 mark for the most home runs by a rookie in National League history. 

The MLB rookie record is held by Aaron Judge, who hit 52 home runs in 2017, and Alonso could end up in similar territory.

He's also now just two home runs away from tying the Mets' all-time single-season record of 41 homers, held by Todd Hundley and Carlos Beltran.
