Although they recently traded Kevin Plawecki, the Mets are open to trading Travis d'Arnaud as well, reports SNY's Andy Martino.

According to Martino, if the Mets deal d'Arnaud, they could look to sign a different backup catcher. However, Martino also notes that minor leaguer Tomas Nido is also on their radar when it comes to a potential answer as a backup.

The 29-year-old d'Arnaud was a non-tender candidate earlier this offseason, but the Mets ultimately decided to offer him arbitration -- with the two sides agreeing to a one-year deal worth $3.515 million.

After signing Wilson Ramos and dealing Plawecki, the Mets' plan was to pair d'Arnaud with Ramos (who would get the bulk of the playing time). While Ramos and d'Arnaud are high-upside offensive players, they have both dealt with injury issues. And trading d'Arnaud while replacing him with someone with a better injury history could make sense.

If the Mets trade d'Arnaud and look to replace him with a free agent -- perhaps one who profiles as a defense-first catcher -- there are plenty of options still on the market, including Martin Maldonado and Rene Rivera.

If the Mets trade d'Arnaud and go in-house for his replacement, Nido would be the logical fit.

The 24-year-old Nido has struggled offensively during his brief stints with the Mets in 2017 and 2018, but he profiles as a solid defender who can handle a pitching staff well.
