Mets ace Jacob deGrom, the two-time defending NL Cy Young Award winner, has been ranked the top starting pitcher in baseball by MLB Network's The Shredder.
The 31-year-old deGrom came in at No. 1 on the list after posting a 2.43 ERA and 255 strikeouts in 204.0 innings pitched in 2019.
deGrom came in ahead of the likes of Justin Verlander, who won the AL Cy Young Award in 2019, and new Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole, who came in at second in AL Cy Young Award voting behind his former Astros teammate.

Earlier this season, Michael Conforto was the ninth best right fielder according to The Shredder, while Brandon Nimmo also came in at No. 9 amongst center fielders.
In his two Cy Young Award winning seasons, deGrom has posted a 2.06 ERA with 524 strikeouts in 221 innings pitched. In 2018, he came in fifth in MVP voting.
In both seasons, deGrom was among the Top 2, if not No. 1, in both ERA and strikeouts.
deGrom will look to become the first NL pitcher since Randy Johnson to win the award three seasons in a row -- Johnson actually won it four seasons in a row from 1999-2002 as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
