There's been a lot of speculation about who the Mets were going to call up as MLB rosters expand from 26 to 28 on September 1, and now we have an answer.
According to SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino, the Mets are calling up right-handed reliever Adonis Medina and infielder Deven Marrero to join the big club.
Martino also reports that outfielder Terrance Gore, who was called up on Wednesday to replace Brett Baty's roster spot, will stay in the majors.
Many fans had been hoping to see prospect Mark Vientos get the call up as a DH option, but the 22-year-old is sticking at the Triple-A level for now.
Martino wrote earlier on Wednesday that a Vientos call-up was unlikely because the Mets have prioritized defensive versatility, which explains Marrero -- who can play all over the infield -- getting the call.
Medina, 25, has appeared in 13 games for the Mets this season. Though his ERA stands at 4.63, Medina has proven himself as a quality long man when called upon to eat innings out of the 'pen.
Marrero, meanwhile, has played three games with the Mets this season, going 0-for-4 at the plate.
