The Giants have officially announced the trade with the Jets to acquire DL Leonard Williams, with the NFL trade deadline passing.

The terms of the deal were Williams in exchange for a 2020 third-round pick and a 2021 fifth-rounder that could become a fourth-round selection if the Giants sign him to an extension.

"I'm just ready to bring some toughness, some pass rush, some run stop, everything," Williams told Giants.com's Michael Eisen. "Being a good teammate to the guys, being a good guy in the building on and off the field, just know that I am going to give it my all every day."

Head coach Pat Shurmur added: "We are excited to have Leonard. He is a young yet very experienced defensive player who has the ability to make an impact against the run and the pass. In our system, he has the ability to play multiple positions on our defensive line."

Make no mistake: That impact Williams wants to make will begin on Monday night against the Cowboys. He said that he will be ready to work in defensive coordinator James Bettcher's scheme by then.

"I don't think it will be too hard," Williams explained. "When I was in college, I had a different defensive coordinator every year, I had two different D-coordinators here (with the Jets). I think because I've had so many different D-coordinators and had to learn defenses quickly, I've learned how to learn stuff fast."

Williams admitted that he was "little bit shocked" that the Jets traded him away, but he'll get the chance to prove them wrong in two weeks when the Giants face off against the Jets on Nov. 10 at MetLife Stadium.

"I'm excited for it," Williams said.

So far this season, Williams has yet to record a sack while tallying 20 combined tackles and five quarterback hits working in Gregg Williams defense. The USC product gets a lot of flak for not being a sack producer, having 17 of his five seasons thus far. However, Williams excels in stopping the run game -- and at 25 years old -- there is certainly some talent and upside inside the former sixth overall pick.

Williams will be thrusted into a defensive front that involves Dalvin Tomlinson, B.J. Hill, and the 17th overall pick by the Giants this season in Dexter Lawrence. It's unknown who may get the short end of the stick with Williams added, but he is only worried about making the best of his reps on Monday night and making a good first impression for his new team.

The corresponding move in the trade was the release of LB Tae Davis. With Deone Bucannon in place now with the Giants, he should slide right next to Alec Ogletree, who remained safe in New York despite rumors he may be moved before the trade deadline.
