When the Nets return to action Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. from Barclays Center in New York, Brooklyn (5-8) hosts the Charlotte Hornets (6-8) without Kyrie Irving for the third straight game.

The team's leading scorer and facilitator at 28.5 points and 7.2 assists per game through the first month of the 2019-20 season, Irving remains sidelined due to his right shoulder impingement, the Nets announced Wednesday afternoon.

The point guard played last Thursday's 101-93 loss to the Nuggets in Denver after he entered the as questionable on last Wednesday's injury report, which included shooting guard Caris LeVert's right thumb sprain.

LeVert underwent successful surgery on his thumb last Thursday, while Irving played 35 minutes in the game against the Nuggets (9-3) with 17 points and nine assists.

As the Nets completed their five-game road trip with last Saturday's 117-111 win over the Bulls in Chicago, they did so without Irving, whose right shoulder impingement appeared to flare back up. Irving remained out for Monday's 115-86 loss to the Indiana Pacers.

To compensate for Irving's absence across both games, the Nets bumped sixth man Spencer Dinwiddie at point guard into the starting lineup with backup shooting guard Garrett Temple already in LeVert's place.

Between the win over the Bulls (4-10) and the loss to the Pacers (8-6), Dinwiddie led the Nets in scoring for each contest, following last Saturday's team-high 24 points on 5-of-11 shooting and 14-for-15 mark from the free-throw line with Monday's game-high 28 points on 9-of-21 shooting and 4-for-8 clip from three-point range.
