In a huge blow to the Jets' wide receiving corps, the team will be without Quincy Enunwa for the rest of the season due to a neck injury, head coach Adam Gase confirmed on Wednesday morning.

Later on Wednesday afternoon, the Jets officially placed the wide receiver on Injured Reserve.

According to Gase, Enunwa suffered the injury during the Jets' Week 1 loss to the Bills and tests on Monday revealed the severity.

"We found out the next day after the game, kinda informed us that he didn't feel right after the game," Gase said. "Went through all the tests and evaluations and we didn't find out until after Monday. Then we had to look through some other avenues."

Asked whether the injury could be career threatening, Gase deferred to the doctors.

"I don't want to say that, because I'm not a doctor. I don't understand the details and everything," Gase said, adding that Enunwa was still going through a lot of different tests

A source close to Enunwa told SNY's Ralph Vacchiano that it "could be" career threatening but that they are a long way from determining that as Enunwa still has more tests to undergo.

"He's done everything you can possibly ask a guy to do," Gase said about how Enunwa has performed during his Jets tenure. "I feel for him -- just the aspect that he's going through something like this. It's not something that's easy for guys that have been doing this their whole life."

Enunwa, the Jets' 2014 sixth-round pick out of Nebraska, also missed the entire 2017 season due to a neck injury he sustained that year in training camp.

With Enunwa down, the Jets' Top 3 receivers are Robby Anderson, Jamison Crowder, and the recently-acquired Demaryius Thomas

The 27-year-old Enunwa signed a four-year extension with the Jets in December that included roughly $20 million in guaranteed money.

His best season came in 2016, when he played in all 16 games and finished with 58 catches for 857 yards and four touchdowns.

To fill Enunwa's spot on the roster, the Jets claimed former Bengals defensive lineman Jordan Willis off waivers. A third-round pick out of Kansas State in 2017, Willis has played in 32 games, but recorded just 2.0 sacks. He was inactive for the Bengals' Week 1 loss to Seattle, and was subsequently waived on Tuesday.
