Jets head coach Todd Bowles told the media Thursday that veteran QB Josh McCown will replace rookie QB Sam Darnold as the starter against the Bills this Sunday.

And despite McCown last seeing game action during the preseason, WR Jermaine Kearse doesn't mind the change. In fact, he thinks the offense during practice looks a lot faster than it normally has this season.

Why is that the case? Experience.

"Obviously Josh played a long time in this league," Kearse said. "So he came in -- especially like through the weeks, he sees things a lot quicker and just the mental aspect. He's a lot further just with his experience and being in the league. So just him being able to see things a lot quicker, the tempo kinda picked up a little bit."

Kearse was basically reiterating what Bowles said earlier about McCown's experience playing a major factor in the team's confidence in him to jump right in, and lead the offense.

"He's practiced the whole time," Bowles explained. "Josh is 40, you don't get to be in this league 40 years old and not be a professional. So we understand and he understands where he is and he's 40, but he has a 20-year-old's mindset. He's very energetic and he's very studious so we expect him to play well if he plays."

Coming over from the Seahawks to the Jets last season, Kearse and McCown had a good connection before the veteran quarterback hit the IR with a hand injury in Week 14 against the Broncos. That is why he isn't worried that McCown may have rust on Sunday.

'Really comfortable," Kearse said. "Last year, we had a really good connection. I'm looking forward to continuing that."
