The Jets will see a very familiar face under center for the Dolphins on Sunday, as head coach Brian Flores told reporters QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will continue to start for Miami.
Fitzpatrick has started the last two contests for the Dolphins, while Josh Rosen is also in the mix. However, much like many players down in Miami, Rosen isn't putting together good film enough to keep the job.
Of course, Fitzpatrick spent two seasons with the Jets in 2015 and 2016, where he went 13-14 as a starter for Gang Green. He had a great first season with New York, going 10-6 but just barely missing the playoffs after a loss to the Bills in the final regular season game of that 2015 season. Still, Fitzpatrick was a fan favorite with his hard-nose style of play.
The journeyman QB is currently on his eighth NFL team with the Dolphins in his 15th NFL season. His most recent performance came on Monday Night Football against the Steelers, when the Dolphins were up early, but eventually fell to Pittsburgh. His stat line read two touchdowns, two interceptions and 190 yards on 21-for-34 throwing.
Fitzpatrick will probably find himself on the other side of the field pre-game to talk with his former teammates. But the Jets know they must force him into throwing some interceptions -- he has seven already over six games this season -- and get pressure to keep Miami's offense stagnant.
The Jets may have loved it when he was in green and white, but they certainly don't want to see any FitzMagic on Sunday.
