Jets head coach Robert Saleh gave several injury updates during his presser on Wednesday before practice, including one on Mekhi Becton.

After undergoing knee surgery, Becton was expected to be back at some point this season. However, Saleh said he still hasn’t been practicing. With five games left on the schedule, Saleh was asked if he expects Becton back this season.

“Hopefully,” he responded.

With the Jets not fighting for a playoff spot at this point in the year, would it be worth the Jets trying to get last year’s first round pick back on the field?

“I don’t ever think it’s too late,” Saleh said, adding that Becton wants to be back out on the field. “I think he’s got the desire to play for his teammates, play for his family and all that.”

Saleh also touched on players like Elijah Moore, who is currently day-to-day with a quad injury. He’s been solid for New York of late, scoring six times in his last five games, including one during his six-catch, 77-yard game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is also day-to-day, while Tevin Coleman and Michael Carter II are in concussion protocol.

Ty Johnson would be the starting back for the Jets if both of them can’t clear protocol.

Finally, Bryce Huff has been battling a back injury and hasn’t played since the upset against the Cincinnati Bengals. But Saleh was confident that he could be back very soon.

“Really hopeful that he’s back next week and very optimistic on that one.”
