Pitchers already have a hard enough time getting Jeff McNeil out. After all, he's the NL's leading hitter at .340.
But now, the man they call 'The Squirrel' may have found a way to become an even tougher out, thanks to an adorable new friend.
Prior to the game, McNeil had the pleasure of spending some time with some adoptable puppies from North Shore Animal League.

What should Jeff name his new dog? We say: "Rocky" pic.twitter.com/lrAi73Xupr
McNeil then told reporters that he would talk things over with his wife, Tatiana, to see where things stood with their potential new addition.
Well, if McNeil's night at the plate is any indication, that puppy is as good as adopted. McNeil slammed his 10th home run of the season in the third inning, a three-run shot that put the Mets ahead for good.
Immediately, McNeil thought about the power of the puppy.
"I got in the dugout and said 'We're getting a puppy.' I was pretty happy," McNeil said. "How could you not be happy with a puppy in your hands?
A very fair question, indeed.
"If my wife wants more homers, then we may have to get a puppy"

But the question remains. Have the McNeils decided on welcoming a new four-legged friend into their home?
The answer is still up in the air. But Tatiana wouldn't want her husband to ever have a 'ruff' night at the plate, would she?
"We're going to see the puppy again tomorrow," McNeil said. We'll talk. But hitting a home run after holding a puppy, I think it gives me a little bargaining chip. If my wife wants more homers, then we have to get a puppy."
For perhaps the first time in history, this time it seems it's The Squirrel chasing the dog, and not the other way around.
