As the Giants continue their search for a new offensive coordinator, the Jaguars have fired OC John DeFilippo, adding another potential candidate to the pool Big Blue was already considering.

The firing of DeFilippo was first reported by Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

According to Rapoport, the firing came as a surprise.

SNY's Ralph Vacchiano has not yet heard anything connecting DeFilippo to the Giants' vacant OC job, but added that it doesn't necessarily mean he's not of interest.

DeFilippo, 41, spent only one season with the Jaguars as their OC, where he helped develop rookie QB Gardner Minshew but ran an offense that was near the bottom of the league (20th) in total yards per game in 2019.

The Jaguars' offense ranked better when it came to passing yards per game. They totaled 3,760, good for 16th in the NFL. Their rushing attack ranked No. 17.

DeFilippo, who began his NFL coaching career with the Giants when he was their offensive quality control coach from 2005-06, has been bouncing around the NFL lately while spending very little time at each stop.

He was the Vikings' OC in 2018, quarterbacks coach of the Eagles from 2016-17, and the OC of the Browns in 2015. He was the quarterbacks coach for the Raiders from 2012-14. He also coached with the Raiders from 2007-08, when he was their quarterbacks coach.

Before joining the Raiders, DeFilippo was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at San Jose State in 2011. In addition to coaching stints with Fordham (2000), Notre Dame (2001-02), and Columbia (2003-04), DeFilippo also coached for the Jets (2009).

New Giants head coach Joe Judge wasted no time when it came to his defensive coordinator, with that job going to Patrick Graham. The next key decision will be OC, and another interesting name is now out there.
