The Islanders' 10-game winning streak has come to an end.

On Thursday night, the Islanders failed to hold onto a three-goal lead in the third period, eventually falling to the Penguins, 4-3, in overtime at Barclays Center.

The team's 10-game streak was the second-longest winning streak in team history. The only better mark in the history of the franchise came in 1981-82, when the team won 15 straight en route to their third-straight Stanley Cup championship.

The Islanders got off to an incredibly quick start on Thursday, as Casey Cizikas lit the lamp just 19 seconds into the game for an early lead. In the second period, Cal Clutterbuck and Adam Pelech each tallied goals off their own, pushing the Islanders' lead to 3-0.

In the third period, though, the Penguins chipped away. Jared McCann, Bryan Rust, and Evgeni Malkin all beat Semyon Varlamov, sending the game to overtime.

In OT, the Islanders turned the puck over behind their own net, and Rust scored on a wrap-around to end the game and kill the streak.

Despite the loss, the Isles picked up a point and are still just two points back of the Washington Capitals for first place in the Metropolitan Division.

"It's tough to swallow, but a point is a point," Ryan Pulock said to reporters after the game. "Obviously we're going to take that. The upsetting part is just that we left one out there that we should've been able to get."

"We didn't stick to what we've been doing," added Anders Lee. "We have to be better than that. Bad period, bad lapse and it cost us a point."
