The Islanders announced they signed five players, including former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Thomas Kuhnhackl, on Monday.

New York re-signed goaltender Christopher Gibson to a two-year, two-way deal, and also announced it signed Seth Helgeson to a two-year deal, Mike Sislo to a one-year deal and Matt Lorito to a two-year deal with the first year being a two-way one.

Kuhnhackl, 26, totaled two goals and six assists in 69 games for the Penguins last season, and has recorded 11 goals and 28 assists since entering the league three seasons ago.

Helgeson last played in the NHL in the 2016-17 season as a member of the New Jersey Devils. With AHL Bridgeport last year, the 27-year-old defenseman scored one goal and recorded 11 assists in 76 games.

Sislo, 30, is another former Devil who last played in an NHL game in the 2015-16 season. He has played in 140 AHL games with three different teams over the past two years, including 68 games with Tucson last season, scoring 23 goals and totaling 24 assists in 68 games.

Lorito, 27, had 23 goals and 26 assists in 59 games with AHL Grand Rapids last season. He has only appeared in two NHL games, both with the Detroit Red Wings, in his professional career.

Despite not being able to re-sign John Tavares, the Islanders have had a relatively busy free-agency period so far, signing Leo Komarov to a four-year deal and Valtteri Filppula to a one-year deal on Sunday.
