If Bill Belichick steps down from Patriots, could a role with Giants be an option?

The waiting game in New England hasn't just centered around when Tom Brady will finally call it quits, but also when Bill Belichick might hang up his headset as well.

Belichick has his rings, and when Brady leaves, he may want to pursue another position in the game after his many years as arguably the best NFL head coach in history.

And that's where the Giants might come in.

According to the Boston Globe's Ben Volin, Belichick will "probably stay for one more year after Brady," an NFL insider told him. When that will be no one knows, but that same insider believes Belichick might want a larger role within an organization.

"I could easily see him, if he did leave, becoming a president of some other team or an executive VP or something like that," the insider said.

So would his history in New York make the Giants an option?

"Of course," he said.

The Giants have been in complete disarray, with another terrible season about to come to a close at the end of the month. They'll have another high draft pick and their rebuild will continue on. However, with it being that bad, changes within the organization may go down with Pat Shurmur and even Dave Gettleman on the hot seat.

If things continue to falter and Belichick steps down from his role in New England, a reunion with the Giants -- a team he has the utmost respect for -- could be a potential landing spot. And it would be an immediate boost to helping this team reach championship status once again.

Of course, this is pure speculation, but as Brady's tenure dwindles for the Pats, so does Belichick's. And when that eventually does happen, it wouldn't be crazy to think he could make a return to the Giants.
