The Mets (8-5) took sole possession of first place in the NL East by beating the Braves 6-3 in the first game of a four-game series at SunTrust Park.

They play the second game of the series on Friday at 7:20 p.m. on SNY.

Here's what happened Thursday, in case you missed it:

Steven Matz threw six strong innings while Pete Alonso and Amed Rosario both homered to top the Braves.

Alonso's home run, a 454-foot shot to center field, was the hardest-hit home run in the majors this season. The Mets rookie first baseman also had a priceless reaction upon hearing that Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton are the only players to hit harder homers since 2015.

Meanwhile, Noah Syndergaard was unphased at the Braves mascot's pregame antics.

Thursday's game began a stretch in which 10 of the Mets' next 13 games were against either the Phillies or Braves, a crucial time early this season.

Infielder Jed Lowrie is still progressing from his injury.

On the season premiere of The Amazin' Life presented by Coca-Cola, Todd Frazier tries to give teammate Brandon Nimmo some New Jersey style.

Ahead of Sunday's season premiere, Syndergaard is among the New York athletes to make their "Game of Thrones" predictions.
