The Giants released their unofficial depth chart on Monday, and though it isn't set in stone, there are a few things worth noting.

Here are the five biggest takeaways from how this roster looks early on in training camp...

1) No surprise Saquon Barkley is lead running back

This shouldn't be that much of a big deal for Giants fans, but it is worth noting that the coaching staff at the moment thinks just like the rest of us. Barkley has been lighting up camp, showcasing his breakaway speed, power, and overall work ethic.

Having veteran Jonathan Stewart competing with Barkley gave him some good competition, and former Giant Shaun O'Hara even suggested Stewart would start Week 1 to ease Barkley into the role. But it appears the Giants want to throw their No. 2 overall pick into the fire, and see how he responds. He looks up for the challenge.

2) The 3-4 scheme will take some getting used to

It's weird to scroll down to the defense and see three defensive tackles as well as a "SAM" and "WILL" linebacker on the depth chart. But this is what DC James Bettcher's scheme will look like all season long.

It is worth noting that there isn't a nickel cornerback slot on the depth chart, but don't look too closely into that. When the play calls for it, players like Donte Deayon and B.W. Webb -- who are second behind Eli Apple and Janoris Jenkins respectively -- could fill in there.

But this side of the ball already looks different.

3) Rookie B.J. Hill being rewarded early for impressive camp

Third-rounder B.J. Hill has been generating some buzz at camp, and he has gotten praise from fellow defensive tackles Damon "Snacks" Harrison and Dalvin Tomlinson.

Being that Bettcher is running a 3-4, there is an extra defensive tackle on the front line, and Hill is slotted to be there at the start of the season. That is in front of Kerry Wynn and Robert Thomas, both veterans on the Giants.

Tomlinson made an impact last season as a rookie, and Hill will look to emulate that production if not more this season.

4) What does the two tight-end set mean?

The Giants' offense will feature a 12-personnel look this season as the third wide receiver in a traditional 11-personnel is gone. Instead, a second tight end -- Rhett Ellison -- in this case is on the depth chart.

So, what does this mean for Evan Engram? Is he mostly considered a wide receiver in this scheme? After a breakout rookie campaign, the Giants realize how much of a threat in the air Engram is. But it must also be noted that two tight ends in the scheme adds more reliable blocking for Saquon Barkley in the backfield.

Head coach Pat Shurmur will likely have a few tricks up his sleeve as two tight ends in a set brings about a world of possibilities for a stacked offense on paper.

5) Halapio over Jones in the middle

Undrafted rookie Brett Jones flashed some skill in the Giants' dismal season last year, and many considered him to be the favorite to win the starting center job with Big Blue not making any improvements in that area.

But Jon Halapio, a converted guard who has been Jones' competition in camp, is in front on the depth chart. Halapio is going to have to get on the same page with Eli Manning in camp if he is to truly be the Week 1 starter, but it appears that chemistry has been built early on.
