Jeff McNeil probably keeps a lot of pitchers awake at night as they wonder about how to get him out.

But on Friday night, McNeil likely kept a number of Mets fans and dog lovers up into the early morning hours, wondering if McNeil would decide to take home a new puppy on Saturday morning.

Well the waiting is over, and the McNeils were happy to announce that they've welcomed a new addition to their family.

Prior to Friday's game, McNeil had the pleasure of spending some time with some adoptable puppies from North Shore Animal League.

McNeil then told reporters that he would talk things over with his wife, Tatiana, to see where things stood with their potential new addition.

He then went on to slam his 10th home run of the season in the third inning, a three-run shot that put the Mets ahead for good.

Immediately, McNeil thought about the power of the puppy.

Here's the video evidence:

"I got in the dugout and said 'We're getting a puppy.' I was pretty happy," McNeil said. "How could you not be happy with a puppy in your hands?"

A very fair question, indeed.

McNeil said on Friday he would talk things over with his wife, Tatiana, and now fans everywhere know what decision they came to.

Congratulations to the McNeils on their new addition, a girl who does not yet have a name.
