The first day of NFL free agency has passed, and many eye-opening deals went down in those 24 hours as the league shook up its rosters.

The Giants were among those that added some new pieces, especially on the defensive side of the ball. And GM Dave Gettleman still has about $55 million to work with, so Big Blue might not be done.

Here's what happened on Day 1, starting with the team's latest signee:

Giants sign imposing free agent TE Levine Toilolo: New York needed to add more depth to the tight end position, and they did so with a veteran that is very good at blocking to complement Evan Engram and Kaden Smith

Giants agree to three-year deal with LB Blake MartinezExit Alec Ogletree and enter Martinez, a player who was second in tackles last season at 155. He may not be good in coverage, but this tackle machine is young and can anchor the middle of the defense.

Giants sign CB James Bradberry to three-year dealGettleman wasn't expected to splurge, but this move proved otherwise. At $15 million per season, he reunites with a player he drafted down in Carolina, and fills the veteran corner hole the Giants had with Janoris Jenkins gone. Bradberry is getting No. 1 corner money, so that's the role he'll have immediately.

- Giants place franchise tag on Leonard Williams: It was a move Giants fans probably cringed at, but nonetheless, this is what the team was leaning toward as both sides couldn't figure out a long-term deal. Is that still in the works?

Giants are 'legitimate contenders' for DE Jadeveon ClowneyAfter these other signings, Gettleman can really perform a grand finale and land the top edge rusher on the market. And one report has them truly being contenders in his market that could yield a deal worth $22-23 million per season.

- Giants interested in OLB Jordan Jenkins, with Jets expected to let him walk: Jenkins had a career year with the Jets last season, but it looks like they're going to let him walk. OLB depth? They Giants might do it on a team-friendly deal he is likely to receive.

- Giants place second-round tender on K Aldrick Rosas: He didn't have a Pro Bowl year like he did in 2018, but the Giants like Rosas and are willing to pay him as such. And it's also because he would've been a hot commodity if he hit the market.
