Giants TE Evan Engram has been working hard to get back on the field these past few weeks, but his body just wasn't cooperating. The Giants had no choice but to put him on the IR, and now we know why.

Engram revealed on Wednesday that he is dealing with a Lisfanc injury in his foot, and that he will undergo surgery with Dr. Robert Anderson on Friday to repair it.

"Just didn't get better. It was a tough injury, tricky injury," Engram said.

Engram should definitely be 100 percent healthy by the time training camp comes next season, but he admitted it's been tough watching his team each week and not being able to help on the field.

"Definitely want to be out there with the team, and I was having some success," said the tight end, who ends the year with 467 yards on 44 receptions with three touchdowns. "We were doing good things as a football team. It's pretty much out of my control."

It also doesn't help that Engram will be entering a very crucial fourth year for the Giants, where the powers that be must decide whether or not they want to engage his fifth-year option that he has for being a first-round pick. He hasn't been able to really get in a groove these past two years because of multiple injuries, but when he is on the field, he has been a matchup nightmare for linebackers trying to cover him.

When asked about it, he said "That's out of my control." However, Engram's response to wanting to remain in New York for this rebuild despite all the losing shows how much he cares about the organization.

"Of course. This is a special place. There's a lot of history here," he said. "We haven't lived up to the standard that's held here. I want to be a part of that turnaround. I want to be part of the turnaround that's coming."

To do that, Engram must trust his recovery process and gear up for another season where the Giants hope the injury bug stays away. The Giants need him healthy, being that he is one of their primary playmakers on the offensive side of the ball.

Engram is committed to returning to that rookie version of himself.

"I can't wait to just attack this process and get back to the player I know I am," he said.
