Before Edwin Jackson signed a minor league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks in February, he was also weighing a minor league offer from the Mets. And he would've made history if he signed there.

According to Zach Buchanan of The Athletic, "people close to Jackson" were pushing for Jackson (who had previously played for the Diamondbacks) to join the Mets instead, where he would've broken his own record for most teams played for in a major league career had he made the big league roster in 2020.

Instead, the 36-year-old Jackson signed with the Diamondbacks. And his record of teams played for will remain at 14 instead of ticking up to 15.

Had Jackson chosen the Mets, it's fair to believe he would've opened the season with Triple-A Syracuse in the rotation.

As things stood before Jackson opted to sign with the Diamondbacks, the Mets already had six starting pitchers -- Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Marcus Stroman, Steven Matz, Rick Porcello, and Michael Wacha -- for five spots.

And their bullpen, which will include eight pitchers most of the time according to GM Brodie Van Wagenen, is also pretty much set, expected to consist of Edwin Diaz, Jeurys Familia, Dellin Betances, Justin Wilson, Seth Lugo, Robert Gsellman, Brad Brach, and either Wacha or Matz.
