Former Knicks and 10-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony may have looked "great" during his offseason workouts with the Nets, but with 15 guaranteed contracts on their books, it didn't look like there was a spot for him.

That was until Wilson Chandler was just suspended for PED use.

Chandler's 25-game suspension for the violation could open a sport for Anthony if the Nets choose to waive him, though there are no indications that the club has plans to do that. Brooklyn could part ways with Chandler without taking a hit given his one-year, veteran minimum deal he signed this offseason with the team.

Brooklyn can make Chandler inactive after the fifth game of his suspension, which would open up a temporary roster spot. Once Chandler returns from his suspension, Brooklyn would have to waive or trade a player to make room for Anthony or any other player.

Some Nets players strongly support the idea Brooklyn signing Anthony, sources told SNY's Ian Begley. Also, according to The Athletic, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant are "pushing" for the Nets to sign the veteran forward.

Nets players supporting an Anthony signing and Nets GM Sean Marks wanting to sign Anthony are two different things. It's unknown if Marks would waive a player to add Anthony.

During Anthony's informal workouts with the Nets out in Los Angeles, a source told Begley that the 35-year-old vet was one of the best players on the floor while looking in great shape.

Last season, Melo signed with the Rockets, but that marriage quickly ended after 10 games. He managed to average 13.4 points with 5.4 rebounds and 0.5 assists, but both sides weren't seeing eye to eye. After his departure, he didn't sign elsewhere, though he was looking to find a contender that needed his services.

The Nets are expected contenders this season, and if they were to move on from Chandler, it would be a perfect opportunity for Anthony to return to New York -- this time in Brooklyn.
