After a disappointing year, the Knicks find themselves back in the lottery, picking 11th in this year’s NBA Draft. The right selection could help turn things around next season and beyond.

Let's take a look at some of the pros and cons of potential draft options for the Knicks, starting with Wisconsin guard Johnny Davis.

The case for drafting Davis

Davis is an athletic, multifaceted two guard who averaged just short of 20 points per game for the Badgers this season. He’s slated to go anywhere from the top 10 to later in the lottery, giving the Knicks a potential in.

In a similar vein to last year’s selection of Quentin Grimes, New York picking Davis is a bet on one of this class’ best perimeter defenders on top of being a talented No. 1 option offensively.

Davis is a high-motor defender who excels guarding his man. He’s unfazed chasing around screens and has great bounce on contests and an impressive amount of blocks for a guard. He moves well and displays nice strength at 6-foot-5, 196 pounds, with a 6-foot-8 wingspan to boot.

That kind of defense and athleticism are always welcome on the Knicks.

On the offensive end, Davis does most of his work inside the arc, with a Devin Booker-esque mid-range and at-rim attacking mix. He has a variety of free throw extended moves into pull-up jumpers, and will even employ the post-up fadeaway J at times.

Davis doesn’t have an advanced bag to get him into the lane, but changes speeds well and isn’t afraid of contact. He can score at the cup on either side, and has a fair share of explosive finishes the Knicks will want to see more of.

Not only is he a two-way player, but Davis boards on top of all this, averaging 8.2 rebounds a night, good for fifth in the country among guards. His scrappiness makes him a terrific culture fit.
