After a disappointing year, the Knicks find themselves back in the lottery, picking 11th in this year’s NBA Draft. The right selection could help turn things around next season and beyond.

Let's take a look at some of the pros and cons of potential draft options for the Knicks, continuing with Memphis center Jalen Duren.

The case for drafting Duren

Duren is a monster of an athlete at the five, standing 6-foot-11 with a 7-foot-5 wingspan, strong frame, and all the leaping and agility you could ask for. He used this athleticism effectively in his one season at Memphis, namely on defense and around the rim. Combine that with his age, he's only 18 years old, and Duren is an attractive prospect at the five, especially as Mitchell Robinson insurance.

Arguably the best rim protector of his class, Duren excels at guarding the cup. His ability to cover ground, swat shots on the other side of the basket and make uber impressive recoveries is also very desirable. He has terrific IQ, timing and spacing as an anchor, especially for his age.

There’s no doubt he can come in and defend well right away. He’s mastered staying vertical and has proven himself in multiple pick-and-roll guarding schemes. Switched onto smaller perimeter guys he’s more of a mixed bag, but has enough promising moments and deft enough footwork to expect this to come around.

Offensively, Duren is mostly a finisher around the rim, and a powerful one at that. His non-post ups are extremely efficient, mostly a result of his raw strength and thunderous dunks. He’s a lob menace from the dunker’s spot, showing off good hands.

His touch on tougher finishes or a step away from the rim can be hit-or-miss, but he appears to have the tools to build off of. He also runs the floor well, opening up transition opportunities.

Duren will neatly transition into a roll threat in the league, and will find many of his buckets on the offensive glass. Not only will he finish on dives to the rim, but has really nice vision out of the short roll, a huge skill to have this early in his development.
