Could one of the top Nets players in the past decade be close to a return home?

According to a published report Monday from Dave McMenamin of ESPN, Brooklyn is among three teams set to work out Joe Johnson.

Along with the Nets, Johnson will perform in front of the Detroit Pistons and Milwaukeee Bucks.

Marc Spears of ESPN's The Undefeated reported last Wednesday that the Philadelphia 76ers were also slated to work out Johnson, who was drawing interest from the Los Angeles Clippers and New Orleans Pelicans in addition to the Bucks at the time.

"I am hopeful to get back, but I did not get in the BIG3 to get back to the league," Johnson told Spears. "I had a great career. I enjoyed the process. The only thing that keeps the NBA fire in the belly is how it ended in Houston. That just does not sit well with me. So if an opportunity comes along and I feel that it is worth it, yeah, I take that chance."

A part of Brooklyn during its transition from New Jersey in 2012, Johnson spent roughly four years (2012-16) with the Nets -- including his 2013-14 season, among the 38-year-old wing's seven All-Star campaigns.

Over the span in Brooklyn, Johnson led the Nets to three straight playoff appearances, but the team never got past the conference semifinals.

After three full seasons with the Nets, Johnson played 57 games for Brooklyn in 2015-16 before he received his release that February and logged the remaining 24 contests as a member of the Miami Heat.

Johnson spent the following two years (2016-18) with the Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets.

With the Rockets during the 2018 playoffs, Johnson averaged 6.8 minutes per game, following 6.0 points and 38.1 percent shooting over the course of 23 games in the 2017-18 regular season.

He never retired, resurfacing in the BIG3 in 2019 with the Triplets and leading the team to the league's championship.

Johnson's career numbers in 17 NBA seasons average 16.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.
