With news that Gary Sanchez was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday, the Yankees now have a major-league leading 12 players on the IL.

The list consists of seven position players and five pitchers, although CC Sabathia will return to the team on Saturday, but it is still half the roster that is sidelined.

Just how significant are the players missing time with injury?

We broke down some numbers to give you an idea.

$88 million

The combined salary of the 12 players on the IL, which is more than the entire Opening Day payrolls of the Pirates, Marlins, Orioles and Rays, per Cot's Baseball Contracts.

It is also about 43 percent of their 25-man roster's Opening Day payroll of $203.8 million. They have already spent $6.58 million on players on the injured list -- the most in the majors this season by about $1.5 million, per Spotrac.

The amount of home runs hit last season between the players currently on the IL. That is more home runs than the entire Miami Marlins team hit last year -- 128.

Giancarlo Stanton leads that group with 38 home runs while Aaron Hicks, Miguel Andujar and Didi Gregorius each had 27 home runs. Sanchez hit 18.

Number of All-Star appearances on the IL. That's eight more All-Star appearances than the 15 from the healthy members of the Yankees' roster and the same amount as the entire Boston Red Sox' roster. The rest of the AL East combined has five All-Star appearances.

The average age of the Yankees on the IL. Once Sabathia returns, that drops to 28.5, which is about the league average -- an indication that it is not just the older guys getting hurt. Eight of the 12 players on the IL are under the age of 30.
