Following the Mets' 5-4 loss in their rubber game against the Phillies on Sunday, interim manager Andy Green spoke with the media to discuss what he saw from the squad as they came up short in a game where they left 14 runners on base. Kodai Senga also discussed his first relief outing in his big league career, and A.J. Ewing spoke about his game-tying home run in the sixth inning.

In a back-and-forth rubber game between the Mets and Phillies at Citi Field on Sunday, rookie A.J. Ewing made a bid for the game's dramatic turn with a game-tying two-run homer, but Kyle Schwarber made the final mark in the seventh with his go-ahead two-run homer off Kodai Senga, who pitched five innings in his first relief outing, where the Mets came up just short in the 5-4 loss.

Interim Mets manager Andy Green mentioned every aspect of the team's performance on Saturday in their 6-2 win over the Phillies.  From Christian Scott's gritty start, to the bullpen's 4.2 shutout innings and the big hits by Francisco Lindor, A.J. Ewing and Juan Soto. Lindor said the comeback win felt "fantastic" and hopes it's the start of something special. Scott felt "great" after returning from a hip injury and knows they have to take a step at a time to turn things around.

Down 2-0, the Mets broke out for a combined six runs in the sixth and seventh innings to end a seven-game losing streak with a 6-2 win over the Phillies. Francisco Lindor, A.J. Ewing Juan Soto and Bo Bichette delivered the clutch hits, while the Mets bullpen kept the Philadelphia offense in check the rest of the way to earn interim manager Andy Green his first win.

Elaborating on his close relationship with former Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, Juan Soto talks about how Mendoza made him feel comfortable in the clubhouse when he first came to the Mets. Soto knows personnel moves are made on the roster all the time but hearing Mendoza being let go was unexpected and "tough to see him go." While Soto is not too familiar with interim manager Andy Green, Mets rookie starter Zach Thornton, who threw six strong innings on Friday night knows him well from the minor leagues and is looking forward to working with him.

In his Mets managerial debut, Andy Green was pleased with rookie Zach Thornton attacking the Phillies hitters and settling in after giving up a run in the first inning. Juan Soto then appeared to put New York ahead in the bottom of the inning but Derek Hill made "one of the best catches I've ever seen," to rob Soto of a two-run HR.

Mets rookie lefty Zach Thornton tossed six excellent innings against the potent Phillies lineup, allowing just one run and striking out seven as he dueled their ace Zack Wheeler. Trea Turner's RBI single in the seventh broke a 1-1 tie and led the Phillies to a 2-1 victory, spoiling the Mets managerial debut of Andy Green.
