Mets manager Mickey Callaway doesn't think RHP Jacob deGrom is tipping his pitches after deGrom struggled in his second straight start.

"I haven't seen anything like that," Callaway said after Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves. "You start to wonder sometimes when they're taking better swings than they normally do, and fouling pitches off is something you look for when they may be tipping, but we're not seeing anything from the dugout."

DeGrom (2-2) tied a season high with 114 pitches in just five innings, giving up three runs, five hits and four walks with nine strikeouts.

The reigning National League Cy Young Award winner allowed two home runs; by contrast, he allowed only two home runs in his first 10 starts last year.

"I'm not really throwing the ball where I want to right now," deGrom said after the game, crediting Nick Markakis for hitting a good pitch and saying he left a pitch over the middle to Josh Donaldson.

While deGrom started the year with 13 straight shutout innings in his first two starts, he has allowed nine runs and 13 hits in his last nine innings in two starts.

"I don't know if it's something mechanical," deGrom said. "I'll have to get in there and look and figure it out."

DeGrom threw 20 pitches in the first inning, 22 in the second and 29 in the third. While the Braves fouled off 15 deGrom pitches in the first three innings, Callaway said he didn't think deGrom was tipping.

"I'm sure we'll go in like we always do after every game and see if we notice anything after a game, but I didn't notice anything in-game," he said.

DeGrom agreed.

"Look at the pitches they're hitting, they're in the middle of the plate," he said. "When I make my pitch, I'm getting the swings I want. But these past two, just haven't been making the pitches I need to make."
