The Mets reportedly have not ruled out a run at pursuing free agent Bryce Harper, according to Fancred Sports' Jon Heyman.

Mets front office personnel have not said anything publicly about Harper, the 26-year-old former MVP who has made six All-Star Games in the past seven years. Owner Jeff Wilpon and new GM Brodie Van Wagenen both declined comment about Harper as well.

According to Heyman, the Mets would make for "a shock as a Harper destination."

Aside from how Harper played for the division-rival Washington Nationals since debuting at 19 years old in 2012, Harper could, according to Heyman, command a long-term contract worth at least $350 million.

Harper, who has a career .279/.388/.512 batting line with 184 home runs and 521 RBIs, is coming off a year in which he hit just .249 with 34 home runs and a career-high 100 RBIs.

Though he has primarily played right field in his career and also spent 194 games in left and 184 games in center, Harper has reportedly been interested in playing first base to give other teams flexibility.

Of course, the Mets have top prospect Peter Alonso waiting to take over at first, and they have four outfielders in Yoenis Cespedes, Michael Conforto, Brandon Nimmo and Jay Bruce.

But they haven't ruled out a pursuit of Harper, and the offseason is young.
