Looks like Alex Rodriguez' potential purchase of the Mets is gaining some traction.
According to Variety's Scott Soshnick, Rodriguez and his fiancee, Jennifer Lopez, have joined forces with JPMorgan Chase "to raise capital for a possible bid on the New York Mets," the publication reported Monday night.
Eric Menell, Chase's co-head of North American media investment banking, is reportedly the one working with Rodriguez and Lopez.
Rodriguez confirmed reports that he might be interested in buying the team in March, saying on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, "If the opportunity came up, I would certainly look at it."
A-Rod grew up a Mets fan, which is why he will always have a love for the team.
"Here's what it is: I love New York City," he said on the show. "A lot of people don't know this, but growing up I was a big Mets fan. And with the exception of my daughters' birth, both of them, the best years of my life were 1986 and 2009 when we [the Yankees] won."
The first report in February from The New York Post about Rodriguez' interest in the Mets came after a potential sale to Steve Cohen fell through. Mets COO Jeff Wilpon said in a statement that the team will be "moving forward to find a new transaction."
Unlike the initial terms with Cohen, the new sale will reportedly be with "no preconditions regarding control of the team," per Bloomberg. This would mean the new owner would have full control of the team once a sale is complete.
Allen & Company was also brought on to oversee the sale of the team.
