Eduardo Perez is a popular broadcaster with a famous baseball father, and he is now interviewing for a managerial opening in New York.
Sound like anyone else you know?
"Yeah, it's very similar [to me]," Yankees skipper Aaron Boone told SNY. "He grew up in the game, too."
Perez is the son of Hall of Famer Tony Perez. Boone, the son of longtime catcher and manager Bob Boone, believes that Perez possesses the qualities that would enable him to make a successful transition from television to the dugout..
"I do," Boone said of his former ESPN colleague. "He's a great candidate."
Asked what, specifically, makes Perez a fit for a managerial job, Boone said, "I'm a huge fan. He's a guy that really knows the game. Really good at dealing with people. He's bilingual. I really think he's a great candidate."
Perez has interviewed twice so far, once by phone and in person on Monday.
The Mets also have serious interest in Carlos Beltran, who interviewed last week, and Joe Girardi, whose interview is imminent. Some sources see Mike Bell as a dark horse candidate because of a strong relationship with Brodie Van Wagenen.
