James Dolan still can't get out of his own way, as he proved once again during a radio interview on Tuesday, and it begs the question: Why would any marquee free agent would want to join the Knicks and play for this man?
Dolan couldn't get LeBron James or Dwayne Wade in 2010, and he is the same man in 2019 as he was then.
"He is and always will be the reason they don't get free agents," a longtime NBA executive told Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix.
While Dolan has convinced himself that the negative narrative surrounding his Knicks -- which by missing the playoffs for the sixth straight season will have won just one playoff series over the last 19 seasons -- has to do with specific reporters and outlets, the reality is there are plenty of reasons for players like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving to be skeptical about taking their talents to New York despite cap space for two max free agents and the possibility of landing the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft.
There is no culture of success whatsoever, and the common denominator through it all has been Dolan.
