The NBA announced on Friday afternoon that the 2020 NBA Draft lottery and combine have both been postponed.
Both events were previously scheduled to take place in Chicago in May.
As SNY's Ian Begley reported earlier on Friday, NBA teams are preparing for a number of different scenarios in regard to resuming play, whether it's resuming the regular season, an expanded playoff format, or something else entirely.
"They're trying to be ready for anything," one source told Begley.
The NBA, which was the first major American sports league to pause its season in mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic, has yet to formally announce any plans about resuming play.
As noted by Begley, if the regular season doesn't resume, the Knicks would finish with the sixth-worst record in the NBA. That would give them a 9.0 percent chance of landing the No. 1 pick in the NBA Lottery and a 28 percent chance of a pick in the top three. New York would have two first-round picks (No. 27 from the Clippers via the Marcus Morris trade) and an early second-round pick (No. 38, via Charlotte).
Commissioner Adam Silver has not yet announced whether or not June 25's 2020 NBA Draft will be pushed back, though ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that it is indeed expected to be postponed as well.
