Giants co-owner Steve Tisch will side with his players should any decide to peacefully protest during the national anthem this season, and aired criticism of President Donald Trump.

Trump, who last season referred to NFL players who kneel in protest during the anthem as "sons of bitches," has been critical of the NFL's anthem policy, as well as their revamped rules for next season, which have since been put on a standstill as the NFL and NFLPA attempt to reach a compromise.

"Hopefully [Trump will] have much more going on that he's going have to deal with and should deal with and must deal with than worrying about what NFL players do," Tisch told Marc Malkin of The Hollywood Reporter. "He has no understanding of why they take a knee or why they're protesting. When the new season starts, I hope his priorities are not criticizing the NFL and telling owners what to do and what not to do."

Tisch says that no Giants players will be disciplined should they kneel during the anthem this season.

"We support our players," Tisch said. "They are not going to be punished. There is not going to be any punitive action taking place against them."

The Giants have taken an opposite stance with the players than the Dolphins have. On Thursday, the Dolphins announced that they will discipline players that protest on the field during the anthems. The punishment could be a fine, suspension or both.
